Theme: Soundtrack of my life, Part 2 |
This was the second part of the soundtrack to my life that I started last time, this show goes from my University days to the present. I won't say much about the show here as I have a pretty long explanation for each song both here and on the actual podcast. Although it might not have been that interesting for most people, I quite enjoyed putting these last two shows together and I would recommend it to everyone. Thanks for putting up with my indulgence and I promise to get back to the indie pop goodness for the next show that will hopefully be out soon. UNIVERSITY Beastie Boys - Fight For Your Right (To Party) (Had the album cover in my residence room) Jay McShann - Smooth Sailing (From the first CD purchased) The Clash - Train in Vain (Best of 80s) Sprit of the West - Labour Day (great show at Bombshelter, saw them many times) Stompin Tom - Bud the Spud (show on UNB radio station CHSR) CKMS Dave Claerhout - Wackyland Theme (show on CHRW and CKMS) War Wagon - Dead Soldier (first band than I knew the members of and on album thank yous) Magnetic Fields - 100,000 Fireflies (Derek put this on a mixed tape and I became a big fan of the band) The Cure - Friday I'm in Love (Radio Show in Whitehorse) Barry Gray - Fireball XL5 Theme (do I have to say why?) After CKMS Electronic - One Day (best CD of 90s) Belle and Sebastian - Dirty Dream No. 2 (bad 30th birthday and probably best of 00s) Yo La Tengo - Autumn Sweater (Went to see them the evening after getting married) Acid House Kings - A lover's weekend (first real twee song) Jens Lekman - Sky Phenomenon (best concert ever) Jonathan Richman - Dignified and Old (probably seen more times than anybody else) Armand Mirpour - Curly Boys Law (latest top song, one for the future) (C) Denotes Canadian Content |
The Coolest Thing About Love is the name of an indie-pop podcast hosted by Frank Seglenieks. I play alternative music that usually classified as indie-pop with the occasional feature on a particular artist or theme as I have been known to veer in soul and funk. I start off each show with the best song that I have heard since the last show and end with a random songs pulled from my song library.
Of course I named the show after the great album by the Smittens and I pay homage to the band by using a clip of their song 11:11 for my theme. I hope the band doesn't mind, but when I have talked to various members of the band after shows they seem like nice people whom I think would be good with it.
I also use this name for my DJ night happening occasionally at the Jane Bond in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
Note that the links to shows older than 6 months might not be working, if you really want those shows please send me an email and I can get them to you. (Note that prior to 2018 I called my podcast FireballXL5, so don't be confused if you look at an old setlist)
Special thanks to Jeff Woods for finding my a place to host my mp3s!
